Conversations with Hannah

Every now and then I document tidbits of conversations Hannah and I have because I like to look back and read about them every now and then. Like I said in my previous post, life goes by too fast and before I know it she’s going to be grown up and I’ll find myself coming back here to remember things she said.

I’ve said before that we are a Christian household. We are most certainly NOT perfect by any means but we have certain beliefs and we raise our kids to believe the same thing. When they’re older, if they choose to believe something different, that’s their decision but while they’re under our care, they’ll go to church and be taught what we believe. That being said, explaining some things to Hannah have been made a lot easier because we can always say it’s because of God and she accepts it. For example, when she asked for a baby sister I told her to ask God because He’s the one who puts babies in our bellies. When she said she wanted a baby in HER belly we told her that God only puts babies in our bellies when we’re grown up and married so she’d have to wait til then. She never said another thing about it and from then on prayed that God would put a baby sister in my belly. And He did. It all made sense to her. So last night when we were discussing Hubs’ cousin who’s getting married in Florida next spring, she realized which cousin it was and the tone of her voice went from normal to shocked and said “They aren’t married? They have a baby! How did that happen?”

…..

*blink*

At this point I froze. What do I tell her? For years I’ve told her that God puts babies in our bellies after we’re married. They’re not married and yet they have a baby. Darn these kids literal minds. So I told her that it’s hard to explain and I would when she was older. “No. You’re going to explain it to me RIGHT. NOW.”

GULP.

“Well sometimes things happen and God let’s surprises happen.”

Then my phone rang and that was the end of that conversation. Saved by the ringtone.

Then last night out of nowhere she asks me how horses get cared for at the hospital. I told her I had no idea and she got all mad and said “YES YOU DO!” HAH. I said “Why would I know about that?!”

Then my phone rang again.

This kid…she works my brain like none other. I don’t remember asking as many questions as she does when I was a kid. Maybe I did? I need to call my mom.
